Out and About in Cambridge

The vibrant and historic City of Cambridge has something to offer everyone with plenty of things to see and do.

Spend the day wandering the City admiring the amazing architecture - there are many walking tours on offer, but if you prefer to do things at your own pace, pick up a map at the Tourist Information Centre and amble at your own pace.

The historic college buildings and grounds of Cambridge University are a must. King's College and Chapel are generally at the top of everyones' list, but don't miss Queens, Jesus, St. Johns, Trinity & Clare Colleges - all of them ooze history and charm.

One of the best ways to get your bearings is to take a "Hop-on-Hop-off" bus tour taking in many of the important landmarks and sights in Cambridge. There are regular departures and you can get on and off when and where you please visiting the sights at your leisure.

Fancy trying your hand at punting? Then head for the River Cam where you can either hire a punt or take the more relaxed, chauffeured option - sit back and take in the sights whilst learning about the historic landmarks as you pass by.

If all that history and culture hasn't worn you out - head for one of Cambridge's many museums. Fitzwiliam Museum boasts art and artefacts from around the world and Sedgewick Museum of Earth Sciences exhibits collections from Charles Darwin's expeditions. There's the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, The Scott Polar Research Institute and the Museum of Technology to name just a few.

Be sure to take some time out to explore the wonderful shopping on offer in Cambridge - the City has an amazing array of shops from small independent craft shops and delis to the famous chain and designer stores. The Grand Arcade houses all the usual suspects including John Lewis, Hobbs, Laura Ashley, Apple, L K Bennett, The White Company and Hobbs.
